Dray Cottage is set in the small hamlet of Fallapit, just outside the village of East Allington midway between the towns of Kingsbridge, Totnes and Dartmouth. This AONB has many sandy beaches and stunning coastline very close by, including Blue Flag beaches Slapton Sands, Beesands, East Portlemouth, Bantham, Bigbury and Thurlestone. The town of Dartmouth is nestled on the River Dart and offers boat trips, exclusive shops, galleries, many pubs and some famous restaurants. Totnes, 5 miles up the river, is a town steeped in history, enjoying a colourful and exuberant atmosphere, while Salcombe is another pretty riverside town, boasting a busy estuary with many yachts sailing by and a myriad of interesting shops and pubs in its winding streets. There are several NT properties in the area to explore and some delightful open gardens. With the South Hams coastal path stretching over 60 miles there is great walking and time can be spent exploring the rugged moorland. A little further afield and well worth a visit is the Eden Project in Cornwall. Riding, sailing, sea and coarse fishing are available locally, as well as a good variety of shopping. Set in the heart of village life, Court Prior Farm is a lively working farm where lambs are in the pastures, cattle graze in the fields and the smell of the hay fills the air. In season guests may be able to bottle feed the lambs or feed the bullocks. Elderflower Barn (HDDI) and Cowslip Barn (HDDJ) have been converted from the old milking parlour and retain lovely original features, such as stone arch windows, and both have heavy beams and wooden floors. Each holiday property has a good sized lawned rear garden with pretty planted flower tubs and farming machinery decorating the driveway completes these two lovely adjoining properties. All three properties including Pear Tree House (HGGD) combine modern elements such as underfloor heating, vaulted open ceilings, wood-burning stoves and a farmhouse-style kitchen with granite worktops. Court Prior Farm has an indoor heated swimming pool shared by all properties, with its own shower and pool house with sauna(sauna available from 2012). A hot tub is situated on the terrace amongst the pretty landscaping for all properties to share. All properties have their own changing room, toilet and access into the pool, via their own private patio areas. Elderflower Barn has a large patio area to the side with specimen trees planted into large tubs giving an almost Mediterranean feel. All three properties may be booked together for a wonderful family gathering to celebrate a special birthday or anniversary. These three holiday properties would make a super location for a winter break, as well as a summer holiday enjoying the many glorious beaches of the South Devon coastline all within easy driving distance. Blackpool Sands is a fantastic family beach just 4 miles away, has a small shop and facilities as well as ample parking, and makes a lovely day out by the seaside. Slapton Sands is a lovely drive, with the sea on one side and the freshwater lagoon on the other. This area is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the birds and wildlife on the lagoon are amazing, so remember to bring a pair of binoculars. A little further along, the relic of the World War One tank can be recovered from the beach. Driving along inland a little way leads to the town of Kingsbridge. Alternatively guests may enjoy visiting Dartmouth or Totnes, both just 4 miles away and both quite different. Totnes is a lively colourful town, full of different types of ethnic shops, and hosts a busy market day on Fridays and Saturdays. Dartmouth, nestling on the edge of the river Dart, has a strong maritime history and many designer shops and local artists. For great food the famous New Angel is located in Dartmouth, and is the ideal place for a special meal out. More local to the property is the village of Cornworthy - a quiet hamlet tucked away in the rolling Devon landscape - where there is a nice pub within walking distance which serves good food and real ales. There are many village pubs dotted all around this area including places to eat on the river at Tuckenhay, Ashprington and Dittisham. Shop 3½ miles (shop in Cornworthy open Sats).
