Sled dog rides train trips to the resort at the top of the mountain and the Strathspey steam railway are also found here and Britain’s only freely roaming reindeer herd can be spotted against the stunning backdrop of Glenmore. The island, renowned for its excellent seafood and wonderful restaurants, has something to suit everyone. Visit Dunvegan Castle, Neist Point Lighthouse and the old fishing village at Stein. The ‘Blackhouse’ Museum at Duntulm shows how islanders lived in thatched stone houses; the Aros Centre in Portree shows how the sea eagle has been reintroduced on Skye. Ferry trips can be made to the Outer Hebrides or a boat trip into the Cuillins. Tour the island by car or take an easy walk around the 4-acre garden and to the secret shores of Loch Diubaig or just walk out of the back door for 10 minutes for a glorious view of the Ascrib islands.
