There is a spacious sitting room with lovely views over the lake and countryside, separate dining room, and attractive kitchen leading to a conservatory, as well as five bedrooms, one with a king-size four-poster. Ashwood Wing offers smaller but equally comfortable holiday accommodation for a group with fewer people. Guests at both properties have their own enclosed garden and access to the owners’ 7 acres of paddocks; the lake is close to the house but is fenced for safety. Fly-fishing and coarse fishing is available all year round at Narborough trout and coarse lakes ½-mile away. Lake at house available for fun fishing.
The local area offers wonderful woodland/river walks, and the superb gardens and park at Sandringham can be visited when the Royal Family is away. Good places to visit include Castle Rising and Castle Acre. The coast is only 15 miles and is a haven for bird-watchers, with the nearest RSPB reserve at Snettisham, which also has a beautiful church and Park Farm. The long sweep of sandy beach runs from here to Hunstanton and beyond, from where the Norfolk coast path begins. Accommodation overview: Originally the old rectory, this Grade II listed, 17th-century house stands as one of a pair, and has been fully restored to provide a very grand and elegant country house within a rural setting. The house itself is mainly Georgian and part Tudor, and is set in one acre of delightful mature gardens, which make an ideal retreat for taking a pleasant stroll in the evening after dinner. The holiday property has many original and unusual features, including a grand piano in the entrance hall, full length murals in the conservatory and main bathroom, as well as open fire, wood-burning stove, natural wooden floors and a bespoke kitchen/family room. All the rooms have a bright, airy feel to them. The sumptuous furnishings and colour schemes add further to the feel of the house. There is a canopied antique four-poster bed in the master bedroom and an antique iron and brass bed in another.
Wortham is a traditional village with a friendly pub, teashop and post office/store, as well as a tennis club. The historic town of Bury St Edmunds with its Georgian streets and flower gardens makes for an enjoyable day out, with Diss and the Waveney Valley also close by.
The Suffolk Heritage Coast is easily accessible and the most popular seaside resorts, Aldeburgh and Southwold are traditional towns with plenty of attractions for all the family. Thetford Forest, Ipswich and the region’s capital, Norwich are all within easy driving distance and well worth the visit. Many picturesque villages beg discovery locally. Shops and pub 1 mile.
