Accommodation overview: Wonderful secluded location - the perfect place for friends and family to get together Set in a secluded countryside location but only 2 miles from the lovely market town of Diss, these superb properties (awarded Green Tourism Business Scheme silver award) are ideally placed for family gatherings or larger group holidays.
To make the stay even more relaxing, the owners are able to offer catering and housekeeping options. Each property boasts stunning features including oak timbers, individually decorated rooms, with each bedroom having its own TV and either DVD or video. Outside each property there is a large enclosed decked area with lovely views across the fields, which makes the perfect place for enjoying an al-fresco meal or glass of wine. All properties have large open-plan reception rooms, which create the feeling of space. There is also a large heated indoor swimming pool located in a detached barn within easy walking distance.
For active groups there is karting, the ‘Go Ape’ aerial assault courses, clay pigeon shooting and paintballing locally. For something more relaxing, pamper days can be booked at the Aqua Sana Spa in Elveden Forest or local beauty therapists will make home calls.
Ideally placed for exploring East Anglia; the Suffolk Heritage coast and the North Norfolk coast are easily reached. Ideal for families, Monsters Indoor Playcentre, Banham Zoo and Bressingham Gardens and Steam Museum are minutes away. Further afield, but definitely worth a visit are Dinosaur Adventure Park, Africa Alive, Ickworth House, Park and Gardens (NT) and Wroxham Barns with its shops, children’s fairground and petting farm.
Interesting places include Norwich with its cathedral and castle museum, and Bury St Edmunds - one of the prettiest Georgian towns in Suffolk. Wyken Vineyards has a regular Saturday farmers’ market as well as walks and tours. Another obvious choice for a day out is to take a boat trip on the Norfolk Broads, stopping off to enjoy a quiet drink or leisurely meal at one of the many quaint pubs in the area. Shops 2 miles.

The first floor balcony provides a sun-trap for relaxing and watching the wildlife and boats going by. Blickling and Felbrigg Halls (NT) are within easy reach for day trips; and the North Norfolk steam railway is 35 minutes away. The medieval city of Norwich, with its historic buildings and varied shops, is 11 miles. Great Yarmouth (17 miles) offers sandy beaches, amusement arcades and a fun-fair, all great for a family day out. Accommodation overview: For a unique holiday experience, Lock Cottage is unbeatable. Surrounded by water and accessed via a footbridge, this delightful, detached lock keeper’s cottage is an oasis of peace and tranquillity, yet is in the heart of the medieval village of Nayland on the Suffolk and Essex border. Built in 1805 with a later extension, the cottage is one of two remaining lock keeper’s cottages from the Stour Navigation which allowed barges to travel from Sudbury to the sea. The setting of the cottage is truly breathtaking with a delightful garden and the River Stour tumbling over a weir, there is plenty of wildlife to see with kingfishers, swans, herons and sometimes an otter on the weir. There is also the opportunity to fish in the lock pool, or venture out in the canoe and rowing boat provided at the property (life jackets provided). With views across the water towards the open countryside of the Dedham Vale AONB, it is hard to believe that just a 55-yard walk along the tow path leads to the village amenities. The surrounding area is a delight to explore, there are many footpaths in the village and golf is available at nearby Stoke-by-Nayland (3 miles). Flatford Mill and Dedham Village, in the heart of Constable Country, are a short drive away whilst keen gardeners may enjoy a visit to Beth Chatto’s Garden.
