Wroxham (8 miles), capital of the Norfolk Broads, provides daily boat hire, river trips, shops, waterside cafés and restaurants. Visit the market town of North Walsham for its farmers market, shops, cafés, restaurants and supermarket (4 miles). Places of historical interest and stately homes can be found within easy driving distance. Blickling Hall boasts open air concerts and events during the summer season. Accommodation overview: Nestling in 15 acres of ancient meadows, woodland and orchard on the slopes of the Alde valley, these three delightful holiday cottages have been sensitively converted from the outbuildings of nearby Cransford Hall. Featuring an Edwardian walled garden, the grounds are a refuge for a variety of wild birds, including owls. Of individual style and character, the cottages boast exceptionally well-equipped kitchens and fittings, furnishings and fabrics of the highest quality. Each has its own private garden area with furniture, all enjoy shared use of a games room with full-size snooker table, pool table, table tennis and a children’s area with toys and games. There are excellent walks, too, and facilities for croquet and other lawn games. Within walking distance is the village of Bruisyard with its Saxon church. Framlingham (4 miles) is a small market town with shops, restaurants and inns; in its picturebook setting, the 12th-century castle dominates the town. Sutton Hoo, with its new visitor centre, is just a 20-minute drive away. Aldeburgh (about 12 miles) is popular for sailing and famous for its music festival and concerts at Snape Maltings. The coastal area is an excellent one for bird-watching, particularly at the RSPB reserve of Minsmere (10 miles). Sports centre, golf and riding all within 20 minutes’ drive.

Each property boasts stunning features including oak timbers, individually decorated rooms, with each bedroom having its own TV and either DVD or video. Outside each property there is a large enclosed decked area with lovely views across the fields, which makes the perfect place for enjoying an al-fresco meal or glass of wine. All properties have large open-plan reception rooms, which create the feeling of space. There is also a large heated indoor swimming pool located in a detached barn within easy walking distance.
For active groups there is karting, the ‘Go Ape’ aerial assault courses, clay pigeon shooting and paintballing locally. For something more relaxing, pamper days can be booked at the Aqua Sana Spa in Elveden Forest or local beauty therapists will make home calls.
Ideally placed for exploring East Anglia; the Suffolk Heritage coast and the North Norfolk coast are easily reached. Ideal for families, Monsters Indoor Playcentre, Banham Zoo and Bressingham Gardens and Steam Museum are minutes away. Further afield, but definitely worth a visit are Dinosaur Adventure Park, Africa Alive, Ickworth House, Park and Gardens (NT) and Wroxham Barns with its shops, children’s fairground and petting farm.
Interesting places include Norwich with its cathedral and castle museum, and Bury St Edmunds - one of the prettiest Georgian towns in Suffolk. Wyken Vineyards has a regular Saturday farmers’ market as well as walks and tours. Another obvious choice for a day out is to take a boat trip on the Norfolk Broads, stopping off to enjoy a quiet drink or leisurely meal at one of the many quaint pubs in the area. Shops 2 miles.
