Accommodation overview: This charming, secluded Grade II listed detached cottage has exclusive use of an outdoor swimming pool and sauna and is set in 3½ acres of its own grounds. One acre has been set aside as a wildflower meadow. Kiers Cottage is a classic example of a late-Tudor, timber-framed hall house, built around a central chimney. The holiday cottage, which has celebrated its four-hundredth birthday, is at the end of a two hundred-metre drive and is completely surrounded by farmland. The Suffolk Heritage Coast is within easy reach, along with the market town of Beccles (3½ miles) and the seaside resorts of Lowestoft, Southwold, Walberswick and Aldeburgh. Birdwatchers will doubtless head for the RSPB sanctuary at Minsmere, while closer at hand is the lesser-known Benacre Broad at Covehithe. Then again, guests may simply prefer to enjoy the wildlife in the garden which includes regular visits by a barn owl, a green woodpecker, with plenty of pheasant, partridge, skylarks and occasional sightings of muntjack deer. Shops 3½ miles. Oak-beamed living room with open fire in inglenook fireplace and original oak floor. Spacious, well-equipped, farmhouse-style kitchen/dining room with oil-fired Aga (for cooking), open fire in inglenook fireplace and tiled floor. Utility. Bathroom with shower attachment and toilet. Steep spiral staircase to first floor: Oak-beamed double bedroom with oak floor and en-suite bathroom with shower attachment and toilet. Oak-beamed twin bedroom with windows on three sides. Self catering accommodation in Sotherton sleeps 12.
Features include: Pool Open Fire or Woodburner Stove Short Breaks Golf nearby Sleeps 12
Accommodation overview: Only 5 miles from Southwold, this magnificent 16th-century Tudor house stands in 2 acres of secluded gardens of lawns and mature trees, within which visitors enjoy sole use of an outdoor heated swimming pool with a large summer house, and an adjacent hard tennis court. The spacious interior is heavily beamed throughout and has been carefully furnished to complement its age, providing a very comfortable holiday base for exploring the Suffolk coastline and surrounding area. Picturesque Southwold is a quiet and unspoilt seaside town with the shallow promenade and line of beach huts lending it a turn of the century air, and a selection of interesting shops, inns and good restaurants. Nearby Dunwich is a small remnant of a once thriving, sizeable town that has slowly and famously been engulfed by the sea, with a well-kept museum telling the dramatic story. Dunwich Heath has a National Trust car park commanding widespread views of Minsmere Nature Reserve, a bird-watchers’ paradise, and close by is Westleton Heath National Nature Reserve, one of the last surviving expanses of the east Suffolk Neolithic heathland. The attractive coastal town of Aldeburgh lies within easy reach, well known for its annual arts festival. Launched by Benjamin Britten, the festival served as a means to showcase the works of the composer, and those of his contemporaries, and soon moved to a collection of disused maltings, just south of the village of Snape. Converted into one of the finest concert hall venues in the country, the Snape Maltings complex makes an interesting place to browse around, even outside the summer festival period, with craft shops, galleries, pub and tearoom. Golf, fishing and sailing at Southwold. Riding 3 miles. Shop 1 mile, pubs 2 miles. Large entrance hall. Spacious, beamed living room with open beamed studwork separating reading area.
