Centrally located, it is within easy driving distance of Norwich, one of the five largest cities in Norman England. Tucked into a sweeping bend of the River Wensum, the cathedral and castle are amongst the most popular attractions to visit and there are plenty of cafes, restaurants and excellent shopping. Local market towns Fakenham and East Dereham are within easy reach, with shops, inns, restaurants and cinema. There is also ten-pin bowling, a sports centre, indoor swimming-pool, golf and horse racing course. Visit the beautiful Norfolk Broads, where trips can be made along the famous waterways. An alternative way of admiring the Broads is by bicycle, the 56-mile Weavers’ Way winds through the best parts of the Broads on its way from Cromer to Great Yarmouth. It is a short drive to the pretty villages Mundford and Northwold on the edge of Thetford Forest National Park and less than 1 hour’s drive to the stunning North Norfolk Coast with lovely sandy beaches at Hunstanton and Wells-next-the-Sea with many species of unusual wader birds along the coast. Thetford Forest is Britain’s largest lowland pine forest and offers extensive walks and bicycle trails - cycles can be hired from the High Lodge Forest Centre, home of Go Ape. In summer, High Lodge also offers great activities including open-air concerts and music festivals. The imposing NT property Oxburgh Hall is 3 miles; within easy reach are the market towns of Swaffham and Downham, Newmarket for racing or the ever popular cities of Norwich and Cambridge. For a more restful break there is bird watching, fishing or walking. There are footpaths nearby and guests also have use of the owners’ 4-acre orchard. After a day’s sightseeing guests can return to enjoy al fresco dining in the delightful enclosed courtyard. A traditional Norfolk pub with an excellent menu and first class draught ales is 2 miles (free taxi service by prior arrangement). Shops 2 miles.
