Accommodation overview: Loughrigg Holme sits underneath the much loved fell of the same name and was once the home of Wordsworths daughter, Dora and her husband Edward Quillinan, Rich in literary history connections, visitors to Loughrigg Holme have included Charlotte Bronte, the poet Matthew Arnold and Harriet Martineau. This chocolate box property,originally a farmhouse, built in 17th century and extended in the early 19th century is a beautiful example of a traditional Lakeland residence, her 2 1/2 acres of gardens and fellside including croquet lawn blending effortlessly into the slopes of Loughrigg and displaying a wealth of ancient shrubs and flora, cleverly married with more formal patio, lawn areas and natural water fall. A short stroll directly under Loughrigg Fell will bring you to beautiful Rydal Water, one of Lakelands smallest lakes at only ¾ mile long and ¼ mile wide and a favourite of Wordsworth and many other of the romantic poets and still, to this day, magical, peaceful and most inspiring. These 2 characterful barn conversations (Lilac Barn property number 118168) have an interconnecting door and may be let separately or together for up to 6 people and situated in the village of Newton Reigny the Lilacs was originally a farm and the 2 cottages were the Byre and adjoining barn. More recently it was the home to Simon Bull, a well known Cumbrian artist and Lilac Studio was where he did his painting. Accommodation overview: Bracken Howe enjoys the most glorious views from Grisedale Pike to the Skiddaw range, with glimpses of Bassenthwaite Lake from its elevated position in the village of Portinscale. This semi detached house has views from most rooms and was completely renovated and refurbished in 2009 to an extremely high standard. The level of facilities and equippment and the quality of furnishings will appeal to the most discering guests. Portinscale lies on the northern edge of Derwentwater. It has a pub, restaurants, tea room and 2 marinas and is within walking distance of Keswick, which has a wealth of amenities and tourist attractions. There are fabulous walks on the fells around Portinscale, mountain bike trails in Whinlatter forest and sailing on Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite Lakes.
