Several references to the cottage and its former owner are made in a book written on the locality. Yattus is situated in the beautiful village of Eskdale Green on the more peaceful western fringe of the Lake District. Ideally located for those who wish to enjoy the beauty of the Lakes without the crowds. Many walks, sights and places of interest are in the local vicinity, such as Scafell Pike, Stanley Force, Hardknott Pass and Fort, Muncaster Castle, Blea Tarn, the Wasdale Valley and the famous Laal Ratty Miniature Railway, running from Ravenglass to Eskdale. There are 2 very good traditional pubs in the village, The King George IV and the Bower House, along with a post office and village shop.

The adjoinging cottages, with beams salvaged from shipwrecks on the Cumbrian coast and wood-burning stoves, lie in an idyllic rural location, forming part of a small former farmstead accessed from the fell road by a gated unmade track.
