Newly built in 2004 and designed with a cottage style in mind, The Spinney is luxuriously furnished and equipped with a Four Poster bed and cosy open fire giving a romantic air to the accommodation. Situated in the village of Lamplugh in a wonderful rural location 6 miles south of Cockermouth, it is close to Loweswater, Ennerdale Water and Crummock Water. This peaceful non-commercialised area of the Lake District is the perfect setting for a romantic break. Fishing is available locally at Cogra Moss, which is within walking distance and there are many other beautiful walks locally. The Coast to Coast cycle route goes past the front door and the award winning Kirkstile Inn is close by for bar meals. Cockermouth is well worth a visit, with shops, restaurants, Brewery Tours and the Lakeland Sheep and Wool centre to name a few of the attractions. Accommodation overview: Loughrigg Holme sits underneath the much loved fell of the same name and was once the home of Wordsworths daughter, Dora and her husband Edward Quillinan, Rich in literary history connections, visitors to Loughrigg Holme have included Charlotte Bronte, the poet Matthew Arnold and Harriet Martineau. This chocolate box property,originally a farmhouse, built in 17th century and extended in the early 19th century is a beautiful example of a traditional Lakeland residence, her 2 1/2 acres of gardens and fellside including croquet lawn blending effortlessly into the slopes of Loughrigg and displaying a wealth of ancient shrubs and flora, cleverly married with more formal patio, lawn areas and natural water fall. A short stroll directly under Loughrigg Fell will bring you to beautiful Rydal Water, one of Lakelands smallest lakes at only ¾ mile long and ¼ mile wide and a favourite of Wordsworth and many other of the romantic poets and still, to this day, magical, peaceful and most inspiring. Set well back from the main road, in one and a quarter acres of woodland and only 50 yards from the lake, Potters Wheel has direct access to the Lake shore for fishing, sailing and simply enjoying getting your feet wet. Potters Wheel is an end of terrace cottage, totally refurbished by its new owner and now provides excellent facilities to ensure a most enjoyable and unforgettable holiday.
