Accommodation overview: Nestling in the lush Lamorna Valley, only 10 minutes’ walk from spectacular Lamorna Cove, these two warm, spacious and very comfortable holiday cottages enjoy a tranquil, secluded setting among bluebell woods. Hidden down a track, they have been lovingly converted from a granite barn formerly used as a painting studio and stables by Sir Alfred Munnings. Conveniently situated in the heart of the village, yet surrounded by woods and bordered by a stream, Munning’s Retreat enjoys a sheltered position and with its spacious lawns and colourful gardens, is a real sun trap. Lamorna Valley, one of the few wooded valleys on the Lands End Peninsula, is famous for its pretty winding lanes, streams and woodland walks and has attracted artists for many years. The breathtaking cove reveals a small sandy beach at low tide and is good for wet suit diving. There is a small cafe serving home cooked food, an ideal stop before taking the coastal paths either to Mousehole or westward to St. Loy (reputedly the warmest place in England), Porthcurno and Lands End! There are many coves and beaches to be explored locally, and Sennen with its Blue Flag beach is great for surfing, also Lands End, the Minack outdoor theatre, Newlyn and Penzance are all within a eight mile drive. St Ives (10 miles) is worth a visit for its numerous art galleries, including the Tate, and excellent restaurants. There are several lovely local gardens to be visited and for the more adventurous shark and eel fishing from Penzance harbour, a day trip to the Scilly Isles or the Eden Project! Lamorna does not have a shop, but there is an interesting pub just a few minutes’ stroll away, as well as a restaurant with bar and swimming pool. Shops 5 miles.
