Within easy reach is the New Forest National Park, Poole Harbour, Bournemouth, Christchurch and the Purbecks with NT Corfe Castle and the seaside town of Swanage. Famous as ‘Hardy country’, many of Dorset’s towns and landmarks are recognisable from the novels of Thomas Hardy, who was born near Dorchester in Dorset.
