Accommodation overview: Enjoying an elevated position with panoramic views over rural Worcestershire, this detached 18th-century former stable block enjoys its own lawned gardens with an open outlook across fields, making a very peaceful and relaxing holiday retreat. Set in the grounds of the owner’s working mixed farm, it has been carefully converted, retaining a wealth of exposed beams, and provides very spacious and comfortable accommodation ideal for family reunions or get-togethers.

The area offers some beautiful scenery for walking, riding or cycling, with Clee Hill, the Bromyard Downs and the Wyre Forest all easily reached, while Offa’s Dyke and the Stretton Hills are within 40 minutes’ drive. There are many places of interest to visit. Just 4½ miles away, the market town of Tenbury Wells, beside the River Teme, has a good choice of pubs, restaurants and shops. Nearby Ludlow (12 miles) is one of England’s best preserved medieval and Georgian towns, boasting a Norman castle and an array of timber-framed buildings crowding into narrow streets, as well as some fine Georgian architecture. There are antique shops to explore and riverside walks as well as many fine restaurants boasting Michelin Stars.

Within easy driving distance are the Severn Valley Railway, the West Midland Safari and Leisure Park at Bewdley and several historic buildings, including Witley Court (English Heritage), Berrington Hall and Croft Castle (NT). Worcester (12 miles) has a splendid cathedral, china museum, a racecourse and excellent shopping facilities. Tennis, golf and fishing within 5 miles. Shops 4½ miles, pubs 1½ miles.

Accommodation overview: High on a hill in 500 acres of farmland grounds, this spacious holiday cottage occupies a truly unique position, with superb panoramic views and its own garden and patio. Rebuilt with the mellow stone of the 300-year-old barn which once stood here, it has been furnished and equipped to a very high standard throughout. Visitors are welcome to walk along the many footpaths within the grounds.

Hollywall’s private and peaceful rural setting is equidistant from Ludlow and Worcester (15 miles), both steeped in history and crammed with ancient buildings. Ludlow is a delightful town, with beautifully preserved medieval buildings, fine 18th-century architecture, and a splendid Norman castle set high on a hill. There is an excellent choice of shops, including many antique shops, and eating places. Worcester is best known for its beautiful cathedral, and its Royal Worcester porcelain factory, open to the public. Closer to home, the old market town of Tenbury Wells (4½ miles) offers shops, inns and restaurants, as well as tennis and swimming. To the west, the Burford House Gardens display many unusual shrubs and roses, as well as the National Clematis Collection.

The Welsh borders, the Malvern Hills and the Wyre Forest are within easy reach, and Cheltenham, Warwick and Stratford-upon-Avon are only an hour’s drive. Cheltenham offers entertainments of international repute, including theatre, music, dance and comedy, as well as a superb racecourse, while historic Warwick boasts England’s finest medieval castle. Stratford is alive with culture and history, boasting five houses associated with Shakespeare, as well as the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. The Severn Valley Railway and Bewdley Safari Park offer further interesting day trips. Fishing locally. Excellent golf facilities 2 miles. Mountain bike hire 10 miles. This is an excellent base from which to explore Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Shropshire which have a wealth of activities. A short drive leads to Ludlow, famous for its castle, festivals, quaint streets and open markets; it also has an abundance of restaurants and eateries, some Michelin starred, and is a definite ‘must’ for a visit.
The area has a wealth of National Trust properties including Berrington Hall, Croft Castle, Hampton Court Gardens and Brockhampton Estate, all within easy driving distance. Enjoy a day out to the cathedral cities of Worcester, Hereford and Gloucester and the abbey town of Tewkesbury. For the more active, there is golf, horse riding, swimming and canoeing available locally and Offa’s Dyke, the Malvern Hills and Brecon Beacons are within easy reach. Book lovers can enjoy a trip to the renowned town of Hay-on-Wye, whilst theatre lovers can visit Malvern or Stratford-upon-Avon.
