Close by the grounds of Gregynog Hall offer year round interest including extensive woodland with waymarked walks and fine trees rhododendrons and spring bulbs. Gardening enthusiasts (and history lovers too) will also delight in a visit to Powis Castle (16 miles) a medieval fortress soaring dramatically above its world famous gardens. Now in the care of the National Trust the castle houses a superb collection of paintings sculpture furniture tapestries and treasures from India. For keen bird watchers a trip to the town of Rhayader (20 miles) will be rewarded by the spectacular daily display of the Red kite feeding station.
