Accommodation overview: This charming, 18th-century holiday cottage, the middle of three, is set in a peaceful hamlet within an AONB and has a pretty, small, forecourt garden and a larger lawned garden. There are lovely views surrounding the cottage and superb walks from the doorstep, with easy access to stunning landscapes of scars, moors, the Pennine Way and Cow Green Reservoir. The Teesdale poet once lived next door. Nearby are the picturesque Low Force (canoeing by permit), Bowlees Visitor Centre and the dramatic High Force (England’s highest waterfall). Within easy reach are Barnard Castle, Bowes Museum and Raby Castle. Beamish Open Air Museum, Durham, York and the Lakes provide excellent days out. Upper Teesdale is beautifully wild and noted for its flora (gentians, hay meadows) and its breeding birds. Middleton-in-Teesdale, 3 miles with tea rooms, inns and small shops. Pub ¼mile.
