Horse riding, fishing, golf, bird watching and water sports are available locally and there are many places to visit including Crealy Adventure Park. Exeter with its fabulous cathedral, many shops, canal and quaint hidden pubs is close by. Peacefully situated in the small village of Stawell, located beside the Polden Hills and close to the Somerset Levels, nature reserves and walks, fishing can also be accessed. An ideal base for a touring holiday, whether by car or bicycle and is centrally positioned for the nearby towns of Street, famous for Clarks shopping village and historical Glastonbury known for its Abbey, Tor and annual 'Extravaganza' in August. Further afield is Wells at the foot of the Mendip Hills with its cathedral and farmer's market on Wednesday mornings. Other local attractions include Cheddar Caves and Gorge, Wookey Hole and the beaches at Burnham-On-Sea, Brean Sands and Weston-Super-Mare. Accommodation overview: Ordway House occupies an idyllic, secluded setting with its pillared entrance into a gravel driveway off a private road, surrounded by beautiful countryside, interlaced with footpaths and bridleways. Built in 1904 this detached property is within Exmoor National Park and close to the small village of Roadwater and the Coleridge Way. Ordway House has been decorated and furnished to a very good standard, keeping many of the original features. On summer evenings, visitors can sit out on the large verandah looking over the garden and countryside, helping to make this an ideal base for a family holiday. The property is tucked away and set in an acre of garden with a small orchard bordering the drive. The well known coastal resort of Minehead is within easy reach and offers plenty of activities. Porlock, a very pretty village, is a mere 10 miles and has plenty to offer from tea rooms to shops and lovely restaurants. Porlock Weir and Bossington are also well worth visiting where bird watching is a must, as there are many waders that visit here. Dunster is another village just a ten-minute drive away and not to be missed, with its imposing castle towering above the village, beautiful shops, tea rooms and renowned restaurants. The Exmoor National Park offers riding as well as excellent walking countryside over its heather topped beacons from which glorious sea views are enjoyed. Lynton and Lynmouth are within a
45-minute drive and well worth a visit. The scenery on the way across Exmoor is spectacular. Take a trip on the Somerset Steam Railway, a true country branch line of the old Great Western Railway, full of fascination and for a nostalgic ride back in time through lovely countryside. The historic steam locomotives, coaches and wagons, the buildings of ten unique stations are linked by a twenty mile scenic journey. The surrounding countryside is as varied as it is beautiful. The gently rolling Quantock Hills and Exmoor, nestling unspoilt villages and farms situated down leafy lanes, the cliffs and coast of the Bristol Channel with views of distant Wales, Dunster’s imposing castle and historic charm, and Minehead’s seaside location are all waiting to be discovered.
