Self catering accommodation in Smarden sleeps 11.

Features include: • Garden • Pet friendly • Internet Access • Golf near by • Pub near by • Short Breaks • Games Room • Detached Property • Cottage Sleeps 11

Accommodation overview: Thoughtfully converted to a high standard, this stunning, thatched 17th-century barn has a plethora of beams and vaulted entrance hall. Standing detached, it is ideally situated on the edge of the picturesque village of Smarden - whose name is derived from the Saxon ‘Smeredaenne’, meaning butter valley and pasture. The holiday property has additional family room and an open-tread oak staircase which leads to a galleried mezzanine floor, where games facilities can be found.
Smarden was once a village thriving on the wool industry, and is now a sleepy backwater of old England, so classically Kentish that it is sometimes in film sets. In the heart of the village is a cluster of half-timbered houses with Kent peg tiled roofs. Golf can be found locally as well as fishing by arrangement.
For day trips, Sissinghurst Castle Gardens are well worth a visit, as are the vineyards at Biddenden. Leeds Castle is easily accessible and it closely resembles a fairytale palace, rather than a fortress. The fine aviary and maze are also sure to keep children interested and amused. There is easy access to Ashford, from where the Eurotunnel can be taken to enjoy lunch or dinner in either Paris or Brussels.
One of England’s most venerable cities, Canterbury has much to offer, with many shops, restaurants and theatres. A former church, now called The Caterbury Tales has guided tours which lead through galleries and recount Chaucer’s tales. Shops and pub 1 mile.

Entrance hall with vaulted ceiling and stone floor. Open-plan vaulted living/dining room with low doorway to vaulted kitchen/breakfast room with gas range (for cooking) and stone floor. Vaulted family room with stone floor and step to living/dining room. First floor: Partially vaulted master double bedroom with four-poster bed, additional day bed (for +1) and en-suite bathroom with freestanding bath, separate shower cubicle and toilet. Vaulted double bedroom with en-suite bathroom with over-bath shower and toilet. Further double bedroom with zip & link bed. Twin bedroom with low doorway.
