Accommodation overview: This very tastefully converted detached Coach House enjoys scenic walks from the door over fields to the glorious gardens at Batemans, the 17th-century family home of Rudyard Kipling. Appearing much as he left it, be inspired in Kipling’s study, see his 1928 Rolls Royce Phantom 1 in the garage and stroll through the pretty garden to the small River Dudwell, where you can watch the watermill grind flour most Wednesday and Saturday afternoons. Set within the grounds of the owners’ home which offers 11 acres of gardens and paddocks with stunning views across the fields, the Coach House enjoys its own private garden and is an ideal property for family gatherings or entertaining. Guests can enjoy shared use of the outdoor swimming pool, use of an outside equipped play area for children, games room with table football and small snooker table plus table tennis table situated in a garage adjacent to the Coach House.
Burwash is a charming village with a Norman church dating back to a bygone time when the Manor was given to the Count of Eu by William the Conqueror in 1096 in recognition of his services in battle. There are many buildings dating back to 16th century and pubs and shops are within easy walking distance. Visit the 11 acres of Pashley Manor Gardens at Ticehurst, Battle Abbey – experience the most famous date in English history and find out how the nation was changed forever. Approximately 7 miles – Bewl Water - the southeast’s largest lake set within the beautiful Wealden countryside, the fairytale castle at Bodiam and the vineyards at Lamberhurst. Shops and pub ½ mile. Adjacent to the owners’ home, Little Park Hill Farm boasts its own large sweeping garden with a natural spring-fed pond overlooked by a raised, wisteria clad deck. Meadows lead to bluebell wood with picnic area. Peaceful country walks, cycling and riding also abound in this scenic area, whilst trout fishing can be found at Lakedown Fishery about 5 minutes’ drive away. Batemans, the home of Rudyard Kipling, is about 3 miles distant, along with other National Trust properties and gardens, including Scotney Castle, Great Dixter and Groombridge Place. Glyndebourne, as well as Herstmonceux and Bodiam Castles, Bentley Motor Museum, the Bluebell and Lavender Line steam railways and Battle Abbey are further places of interest to visit. There is golf at East Sussex National about 20 minutes’ drive, numerous smaller courses are close at hand. Little Park Hill Farm is midway between the spa town of Royal Tunbridge Wells and the coast of Eastbourne and Brighton. Accommodation overview: In a most beautiful setting, amid 150-acre parkland grounds, and with two acres of formal garden complete with sole use of swimming pool and tennis court, this gracious country manor house offers a warm and characterful retreat (owner retains a service wing for private use). With origins in the 12th-century, the present house was built in 1616 and is full of period features and furniture, such as original fireplaces, 16th and 17th-century wood panelling, Tudor rose ceilings and a grand staircase with twisted balustrade dating from 1682. The themed bedrooms, initimate reception rooms and dining room combine to make it an ideal holiday choice for family celebrations and get-togethers. The surrounding area is steeped in history, with Sissinghurst Castle, Penshurst Place, Hever Castle, Chartwell (Churchill’s home) and the moated splendour of Leeds Castle all beckoning exploration.
