Accommodation overview: Peacefully set with panoramic views over countryside to the Ninth Estuary, these three detached, single-storey holiday cottages each have their own garden and have been furnished and equipped to the STB’s ‘4 Star’ standard. Conheath Gatelodge is a traditional Georgian cottage with many original features, whilst Janward is spacious and modern. Martha’s Shore Cottage was an original fisherman’s cottage dating back to 1700 - many generations of Martha’s artistic family lived here and her father was the stone mason for the farm estate, and cut stone for the owner’s own farmhouse. There are lovely riverside walks from the doorstep with abundant birds and other wildlife to spot. There are many quiet roads ideal for cycling, and excellent wildfowl salt-marshes surrounding Caerlaverock Castle, 3 miles away. Solway Firth, with its Robert Burns connections, is easily accessible. Dumfries, 3 miles, also with Burns attractions, has good shopping, restaurants, cinema and many sports facilities. Sandy beaches, quaint fishing villages, castles and nature reserves all within easy reach. Shop/P.O. and good village pub ½ mile. Set next to the owner’s 500-acre working farm. Accommodation overview: This spacious, detached barn conversion is set on a working pedigree Red Devon beef farm of 450 acres, surrounded by Forestry Commission and NT land. This very smart single-storey holiday cottage has a generous layout and the open-plan living/dining room/kitchen has a real wow factor with its high vaulted ceiling and wood-burning stove, and guests have shared use of an outdoor solar-heated exercise swimming pool. It offers a quiet retreat but with local attractions all near at hand.
Moors Valley Country Park and Dorset Heavy Horse Farm and Park are very close by as is Horton Tower which was used in the Thomas Hardy film Far from the Madding Crowd. Enjoy the market towns of Ringwood, Christchurch, Wimborne and Blandford. The New Forest can be discovered on foot, or by car or bicycle - exploring some of the appealing villages, and perhaps stopping for a cream tea in one of the many popular tea rooms. The coastline with its Blue Flag beaches at Poole and Bournemouth are just a short drive and a little further to an area known as the Purbecks which offer pretty chocolate box villages such as NT Corfe Castle; from here take the Swanage Steam Railway into the seaside town of Swanage. Accommodation overview: The cottage which is situated on a small working farm was built in the 1700's and was originally part of the main farm house. It benefits from a stunning location at Waberthwaite 4.5 miles from the beach and sea in the Western Lake District and with the beautiful Eskdale Valley on the doorstep. This little hamlet has a pub providing good food, a shop and post office on Woodall's farm which is famous for its Cumberland sausage and bacon, by appointment of the Royal Family. Row farm has 175 acres, most of which guests are free to walk across, and breeds suckler cows and sheep. The farmer is happy to show guests round and children will love the spring time when sheep are lambing and the cows are calving.
