Accommodation overview: Woodland Mews holiday cottages stand in the beautiful grounds of Rockliffe Hall, a magnificent 18th-century estate now transformed into a 5-star hotel and golf club spa resort. Set on the banks of the River Tees, it is a destination in itself, with guests welcome to enjoy Rockliffe Hall’s state-of-the-art spa, swimming pool and 18-hole golf course, plus three tempting restaurants (charges apply). These mews cottages form part of a row, and offer guests the chance to experience all the benefits of this resort, from the privacy and intimacy of their own 4-bedroom country retreat. Each can accommodate up to 7 guests, with a cot available on request. Rockliffe Hall is nestled between the quiet villages of Hurworth-on-Tees and Croft-on-Tees in County Durham, in easy reach of the city of Durham, with its magnificent Norman cathedral and 900 year old castle. These landmarks hark back to the time when the city was ruled by ‘Prince Bishops’ - more recently the cathedral was the setting for ‘Hogwarts’ school in the Harry Potter movies. The picturesque market town of Barnard Castle is just 20 minutes’ drive, while the popular Bowes Museum is easily reached. One of the region’s most famous sons is Captain Cook, famous for his voyages around the world and the mapping of Australasia.
